Anne & Cindy

In October 2023, Anne and Cindy launched the monthly Authentic Teaching Kitchen (ATK) series because in addition to being dedicated primary care physicians, both are passionate everyday cooks. “We never had enough time to teach these skills in our traditional medical practices,” Cindy explained. The physicians are proud members of the Teaching Kitchen Collaborative, a network of innovators who use teaching kitchens as catalysts to improve public health in partnership with the Culinary Institute of America and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. They learned about the collaborative after attending Harvard’s Healthy Kitchen Healthy Lives (HKHL) conference with colleagues. “We love combining our expertise in the science of health with the science of nutrition to bring these sessions to our patients and the community,” said Anne. What makes ATK unique is each session goes beyond the mission of teaching affordable, simple, and nutritious recipes. Each session also highlights a health topic or life skill taught by the physicians.

ATK sessions are free and open to anyone in the community. Sessions are limited to twelve people. Registration is required.

Bill Nolan

Bill Nolan began his culinary journey in earnest when in his 30s he left his job working in customer service for a utility company and enrolled in culinary school. He didn’t know where that path would lead him, but he knew it just had to be with food!

While in culinary school, Bill volunteered to teach some cooking classes for the community. He had never taught before and was terrified – but what was once terror turned into a love of education. After graduation he returned to his alma mater and joined the adjunct faculty for two years, teaching a variety of cooking classes.

This led Bill to a career of working in education and non-profit management with a focus on healthy cooking and eating. Bill believes that cooking is very much a life skill, and that making our own food is one of the pillars of a healthy lifestyle.

Bill currently works as a culinary educator for a weight loss management program, helping people make better choices in the kitchen. He is also a media spokesperson for Butterball® at the Butterball Turkey Talk-Line®. In his spare time, Bill enjoys cycling, yoga, planning bike rides with his recently retired wife, and of course, EATING!

Please know Culinary Educator, Bill Nolan, is also available for one-on-one consultations on how to cook. Fee is $100/hour. He does not make meals for you; he teaches basic cooking skills and meal planning. You can reach out to Bill directly: nolan0634@gmail.com
